Dave Montiverdi tosses 6 strong, to help the Sabers take both games of the double header an earn their 6 consecutive 20 win season in the Yawkey League.
The Dodgers would get on the board first with a RBI single by Bakker.
Stoneham would come right back with a Chapman RBI single to plate Rice.
In the 2nd, Cave would smash a 1 out double and later score on a passed ball.
The Sabers would add an insurance run int he 3rd. After a 2 out single by Colucci, Quezada would smash a RBI triple. Quezada would then score on a passed ball.
Creamer would draw an RBI walk in the 5th.
In the 6th, Pizarro would double and later score on a passed ball as well. Lenane would smash a double to plate Rice. Chapman would follow with a sac fly to plate Lenane.
Montiverdi would scatter 6 hits, striking out 7 Dodgers to earn his 3rd win of the season. Brundige would closed the door for the Sabers, striking out 2. |

Chris Dion throws 5 shutout innings to help the Sabers blank the Dodgers 4-0 in game 1 of a double header
Stoneham would get on the board first with a RBI fielder's choice by Lenane to plate Pizarro.
The Sabers add 2 insurance runs in the 5th. Creamer would lead off the inning with a single followed by a Cave walk. Pizarro would then hit a RBI single and Lenane would hit another RBI fielders choice.
Colucci would then score in the 6th on a passed ball to make it 4-0.
Dion tossed 5 shutout innings, scattering 4 hits and striking out 3 to tie a team high 4th win of the season.
Mainella went the distance and let up only 4 hits in the loss for the Dodgers. |

Huber had a team season high 10 strikeouts as well as a team season high 5 hit batters. Rookie Luke Bakker, who continues to have an impressive first season, led the Dodgers with 5 RBIs on the day. Every Dodger player crossed the plate, with James Whittle, Clint Fontanella, and Doug Vinitsky each scoring twice. And the first Matchbox MVP of the 2017 season went to Brian Rizzo, who had to strap on a mitt and play on a day with a short roster with 2 hits and 2 RIBIs

The Sabers offense plates 10, to grind out a win on a hot day at Recreation Park
The Sabers would jump on the board first with a RBI single by Lenane and RBI double by Chapman.
The Sabers would then plate 5 more in the 3rd. Colucci would hit a RBI single and Chapman would deliver another double to score 2 more. Agiorgousis would follow with a RBI double and Rice would hit a RBI single.
The Dodgers would battle back in the middle of the game to make it a ball game. Bakker would also chip in with a solo home run, that would roll all the way to fence. However, it wouldn't be enough as the Sabers would plate 3 more for insurance.
Nick Powers earned the win on the mound for the Sabers. Power tossed 5 innings, letting up 3 hits, 4 runs, 3 earned to earn his 2nd win of the season.

The South End Astros came out swinging today with 17 total hits in the game. RBI's came from Jose Toussen (5 on the day), Brad Presler (2 on the day) and Jordan Matos, Angel Pena, Aneury Lara, and Anthony Baez each with 1 on the day.
The defense was solid all around including an outfield assist coming from Cesarin Baez, cutting down a runner at the plate and a diving stop by Angel Pena on a liner up the middle.
Esdras Rojas gets the win (2 on the season) for the Astros throwing 5 solid innings with 8 strike outs.
Jovan Alexander came in to shut down the last inning pitched for the Astros collecting 2 strikeouts out of 3 batters faced.

The South End Astros and New England College's Esdras Rojas scattered 6 hits while striking out 6 and only allowing one run to cross the plate in the very first inning of the season along with only the second in the 5th. Rojas earned his first complete game win for the season and the team in one game so far.
Anthony Baez led off his Yawkey career with a hard hit double. Jose Toussen continued his Astros career collecting his first hit of the season off a bat that died happy. Jordan Matos pinch hit with a solid double of his own. Connor Henry stayed with it til his last AB of the day to collect his first single of the season.
Great defensive work all around including 2 tough double plays and some great snags on some tough hops and high flies helped secure this great team win for the Astros.
For Savin Hill, Yee (on a 1B) and Diaz (on a SAC F8) picked up the RBI's.
Tuttle took the loss for Savin Hill after pitching 6 innings. |
