Medford Maddogs 3, Cambridge Spinners 3
Believe it or not, in the second game of a doubleheader, the Big E-Unit, Eamonn McDonough went the distance in a 9 inning Tie after going the distance in a 7 inning win, giving him 16 innings pitched on the day. Eamonn walked only "1" batter all day while striking out 15 and giving up 14 hits.
Casey pitched the first game for Cambridge and came back to throw the last 3 innings in relief. This was just good old fashion GUTS. A great day of baseball in the YBL.
Mike Hudd had 3 hits and Buddy Hanley had 2 hits for the Maddogs. |

Revere Rockies 4, Cambridge Spinners 3
The Rockies took advantage of 11 walks to squeak out a victory over the Yankees. Dave Mitrou led off the first inning with a walk, stealing second, and scored on a Kevin Spitz RBI. Mirtou (2-3, 2B, 2R, 1RBI, SB) and Spitz (2-4, 2RBI) provided all the offense for this game.
The highlight of the game came in the top of the 7th when the Yankees needed 1 run to take the game to extra innings. The leadoff batter walked, the 2nd batter hit a long double to RF that rolled to the fence. Mike Close tracked it down, fired to 1B, who then fired home to tag out the runner trying to score from first. With a man now on 3rd (advancing on the throw), Mike McCarthy was called on to shut the door. McCarthy got the SAVE facing just 2 batters, SO 1.
The Yankees pounded out 9 hits on the day. |
