The balls were flying at Trum Field, where the Brighton Mariners squeeked out a 7-6 win over Somerville. The Mariners opened with 3 in the first, all on a 3-run homerun by Brendan Klaes. Klaes later added a double and another RBI to his totals for the day.

Iafolla's knuckler and the Mariners D kept the Somerville off the board for a while, but they charged back in the 7th. Sparked by a 2-run homer by Mark DesRoches, Somerville put up 4 in the bottom of the 7th, and had the game-tying run on second base. But the Mariners were able to notch the final out before that happened to close out the win.

The Mariners take a 1-0 lead in the series, with Game 2 to be played at Trum tomorrow.

Brighton Brewers 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 1 2

WP: Dalton 1-0
LP: Demers 1-1

Game 5 was all about pitching, as both teams brought back their Game 1 starters to pitch this series clincher. In a true pitchers duel, 0 runs & only 3 hits had been notched entering the pivotal 7th inning. Hyde Park starter Demers entered the inning with a no-hitter, but Brendan Klaes lead off the bottom of the 7th with a double to spoil the no-no.

It turned out that one hit was all the Mariners would need, as he later scored to clinch the series. The game was highly indicative of the series as a whole... low scoring game that was dominated by pitching and defense, and was always so close that one play could turn the tide either way.
