Rookie Steve Lambert stepped up with a complete game 3-hitter as Al Thomas nipped South End 4-3. Lambert struck out 10 in yielding one earned run. Ricky Salvucci had 2 hits for the A's, including the eventual go-ahead rbi in the 5th inning. John Kostas went 2 for 3 and Joe Barresi had a 2-run double. Lambert and Chuck Killens also collected base hits. John Lunn pitched well for the Astros before tiring in the 5th, and Leo Villoreo crushed a home run.
