The Middlesex Brewers won their opener on the road in Weymouth with a 21-hit attack versus the Grays, led by Steve Ponte who collected 5 hits. In addition to Ponte, six other Brewers had multiple hits, including Jim Creedon and Rusty Young with 3 each. Cary Atsalis notched the win with 7 solid innings of mound work before rookie Kevin Owens closed out the final two frames.
Going into the 4th inning, the game was tied 4-4. Ponte's 3rd hit of the day opened the score to 5-4, and from there the Brew Crew never looked back.
For the Grays, Dan Gomes and Dan Hamilos each collected 3 hits, while Gary Pudvah and Brent Campbell each had 2. Pudvah also started on the mound for the Grays. |
