The Al Thomas Club stunned the nation with an improbable upset of the number-one-seed McKay Club Beacons in the first round of the YBL playoffs. All four games were decided by two runs or less, capped by a dynamic 1-0 victory for the A's in Game Four to clinch the series. Wiley veteran Bill Clang toed the rubber against impressive rookie Tom Fitzpatrick, and the two did not disappoint the fans. Fitzpatrick allowed only 3 singles in shutting down the A's offense, yielding only a fateful rbi single to Chris McDonough in the 5th inning for the only run of the game. Clang was a strike-throwing machine and held the powerful McKay lineup to five hits, walking nobody and striking out nine.
