Rookie pitcher John Kostas spun a gem at Rogers Park during a light drizzle. Kostas walked 6, hit 2 and struck out 15 Braves enroute to his shutout victory. His no hitter was broken in the bottom of the sixth as Braves 2B Kane laid down a surprise bunt that squirted past Kostas on the right side of the mound that couldn't be fielded cleanly. That bunt loaded the bases with none out when 3B Andy Taylor deftly fielded Braves LF Tracy's hard hit ground ball to Savin Hill catcher Buddy Murphy that resulted in a force out at the plate. Kostas then killed the potential threat by K'ing the next two hitters. The victory was sealed in the bottom of the seventh by substitute 1B Brian Rizzo's sensational defensive stretch and pick of SS Jamie Hogan's errant throw to 1B dramatically ending the game.
