Well, it sure wasn't easy. JM Force advances to the finals on the strength of a 7-hit, 6-run second inning. After Grossman comes out of the gate swinging, scoring two but leaving the bases loaded, JM Force quickly dashes the potential series momentum swing with two of their own on singles by Billy Collins, Chris Kucher (with a stolen base) and Dana Dresser. Then in the second they explode with aggressive baserunning and rbi hits from Dan King, Matt Skinner, Travis Jonasson (2-run double), Dresser and Tim Mitropoulos (2 hits in the inning). Grossman put men on base against Chris Allen (2-0) almost all night - Chris Malloy had three singles and Dan Findley 2 singles and a walk - but left 12 men on and couldn't score again until Joe McCabe drove home two in the 6th. But Ed Bernstein squashed that threat by retiring the power of the Grossman order with two on - getting Andrew Tanaglia and Malloy swinging and Findley on a long fly. |

Chris Allen, a 6-game winner in the regular season, picks up the complete game win. JM Force didn't do much with Grossman's Dan Seip either but bunched three hits and two walks in the third. Dan King got the winning rally started with a triple. Matt Skinner singled him home and Travis Jonasson lined a double knocking in two more. Tim Reinhart's single brought Grossman to within a run, but Allen stranded two runners and brought JMF to a 2-0 series lead. |

Both teams batted around in the first inning, and as base umpire Joe Peters said, whoever would have thought that with Scott Hampe (Grossman) and Mike Stefaniak (JM Force) on the mound that 22 men would bat and 9 runs would score in a marathon inning right out of the box. Grossman answered with five hits to erase the JMF advantage. But the Force would strike back [sorry] and tie the game on Dan King's 2-out, 2-run single in the third. Meanwhile, Stefaniak pitched himself back into a ballgame; and finally in the 7th Tim Mitropoulos singled, moved up on Alec Finigan's sacrifice bunt and scored the game-winner on Billy Collins double. |

Grossman locks up second place breaking open a close game with a seven run 5th inning highlighted by a long 2 RBI triple by Tenaglia.
Strassmann, Perry (W, 5 and 2) and Lauretto combine for the win. Salvucci, Findley, Tenaglia (3 for 4; 3B) Ferbert and Savard (3 for 4; 2 2B) all have multi-hit games.
Liendo battles for IV in less than ideal conditions. Pena with 2 hits and a walk. |
