Ariel Martinez continued to pitch strong for the Royals in a big victory over the Mets. Ariel set the tone throwing 4 innings with only 2 hits and striking out 4. Some shaky Met defense in the first 2 innings allowed the Royals to get out to a quick 9 run lead. Tom Spoth capped the 6-run, 2nd inning with a 3-run blast off the house in left field at Healy.
Of note for the Royals, Travis Taliaferro went 3 for 3, with a RBI and 2 runs scored to spark the Royals lineup. All-Star Greg Kosc went 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI. Corey Son went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored. Matt O'Hara set the tone on defense by throwing out 2 Met baserunners in the 1st for the errorless Royals.
Al Becker, Chris Sansone, Steve Julian and Patrick Castro had the Mets' 4 hits, and Steve Roberts drove in Seth Grossman for the Mets' run in the 5th. Of note, Greg Cote's errorless streak ended after 240 chances |
