Red Sox 11, Mariners 9
The Mariners and Red Sox battled in a true Jeffersonian slugfest. In the top of the first Darren Martineau (3-3, HR,2B,4RBI,R,BB) and Corey Aldopoulis (1-3, HR,2RBI,BB) went deep to stake the M's to a 3-0 lead. The Red Sox answered with a two-out Grand Slam in the bottom if the inning by Jeremy LeBlanc (2-3, HR,4RBI,2R). With two on and two out in the second, the Mariner's got back to back doubles from Rausch and Martineau to retake the lead. The Sox responded with another 5 spot in the third, taking the lead for good by stringing together 4 singles and a walk with two out. Pat Ellard hit a solo homer for the Sox in the 4th and M's RF Josh Plosker hit a two-run job in the 5th to cut the lead to 2. Sox SS Michael Bautista was 3-4 2SB and an RBI.
Dan Williams (2IP,0H,2BB,4K) pitched a hitless 6th and 7th to record the save and preserve Josh Conklin's 5th win of 2002. |
