The Mets rallied for 3 in the 6th and evened the conference final series at 1 by winning a war of attrition with the Cards.
Steve Roberts battled through 7 innings for the win. In the 6th, Dave McManus worked a 2-out game-tying walk and William Garnett (3 hits, 3 RBIs) drilled a single to left-center to put the Mets ahead. In the 7th, the Cards drew to within a run and had the tying run on 3rd when Roberts reached back to pick up a game-ending strikeout.
For the Mets, Al Becker had his 2nd straight 3-hit game and Chris Sansone also stroked 3 hits, including a big 2-run single in the 3rd-inning rally that got the Mets back in the game. Seth Grossman and Greg Cote added 2 hits apiece.
For the Cardinals, Billy MacDougall was 3-for-4 with a 2-run HR in the 1st. Dan Jalbert was also 3-for-4 with a triple and 2 runs scored. Yale Dieckmann cracked a 2-run HR to deep center in the 5th. |
