HORNETS D-FENCE DOGS

Hornets jump on a short staffed Medford team plating 5 runs in the 1st inning and then ace pitcher Kris Aldins along with solid defensive support held off the dawgs attack the rest of the way.

Savin Hill's defense rose to the occassion with solid errorless play. Special mention goes to outstanding catches in the OF by Chris Anderson, Steve Mellor and two by RF Paul Larocque.

Larocque had the play of the game on a Trott Nixonish grass sliding catch of a low liner, then popped up and threw a strike to 1B doubling off the lead runner in the 2nd inning and stopping a Maddogs rally.

As mentioned Medford was short-handed with nine players but kudos go to their All Star Catcher Marc Crovo (Salem St), although saddled with a broken hand, he showed up on a holiday weekend to cheer for his team and provide moral support.

Gotta love guys like that!

Can you say "Pitchers Duel". Tenney and Gildea locked horns tonight at Ronan.

Tenney went 6 innings of shutout ball striking out 6 and giving up 5 hits. Dacey came on in the 7th and continued to throw shutout ball until the 8th when he hit Johnny Cunningham and Mike Maguire bombed a triple to right center to plate the only run of the game.

The story tonight was Sean Gildea. He went the distance giving up only 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 19. The last 14 outs of the game came via the K.

The defensive play of the game came in the third inning. Ramiro tripled to lead off the inning. With one out and the infield playing back, shortstop, Buddy Hanley, threw Romiro out at the plate.

But the story was all about Gildea, who is now 2-0 on the Season.
