East Boston, Mass. - The Somerville Alibrandis take home a convincing game one win in the YBLCS with a 13-2 victory over top seeded East Boston.
Lamarre Rey tossed another complete game allowing just two first inning runs on five hits while striking out 7.
Bill Karalis went 4-for-5 with a HR and 4 RBI to pace the Alibrandi offense along with Juan Parra, who went a perfect 4-for-4. Will Brennan and Bobby Barrett each added HRs for Somerville.
Shawn Carlson suffered the loss for EBK. Ed Colmenares had a two RBI hit.
Game Two will be tomorrow night at East Boston Stadium. Projected pitching match up is Jeff Allison (EBK) vs. Chris Foundas (SOM). Game time is set for 8pm. |

The Braves get on the board in the 3rd with 4 hits in a row including a Uberti (1-1, 3B, 2 RBI, 3 BB) bomb to the woods near the 3rd base dugout of the softball field to drive in the first 2 runs and Smith, helping his own cause, follows that up with a deep blast to left to score Uberti. They finish the inning off with one more on a McKenzie bases loaded walk.
Braves add one more in the 4th on a Joyce grounder to score Robb who had reached on a fielding error.
The Braves cap off the scoring in the 5th as Smith (3-3, 2B, 2 RBI) plates McKenzie on a single to right and Joyce walks with the bases loaded.

Revere Rockies 3, Somerville Alibrandis 1
Classic pitching matchup tonight at Trum. Alex Wong and Lamarre Rey would do battle.
Rockies dual threat Alex Wong would show exactly why he is that. Wong went the distance, striking out 5, and allowing the 1 unearned run. At the plate he went 2-3 driving in the first run on a double to the right center gap, and eventually went on to score the game winning run. The Rockies would add an insurance run in the 5th. Del Rio hit a long double to right center and Santosuosso would single him in. Tony Iafolla had a strong night at the plate going 2-3 scoring the first run of the game.
Parra had 2 hits for the Alibrandis while Rey pitched very well.
Rocks head to Rogers Park Thursday night to see the Braves in the season finale.

The Knights traveled to Somerville to face off against a hot Alibandis squad that had won 8 out of their last 9 in a rubber match of their 3 game regular season series. The Knights sent John Tangherlini to the bump and big red countered with Lamarre Rey and neither disappointed. Both teams traded runs in the 3rd inning as both pitchers lived up to the billing. Tango only lasted 4 innings giving way to Mike Hersey in the 5th who held the tie and bridged the way to Jeff Allison. In the 6th Wilson Mercado hit a bomb to deep RF that landed for a triple. With 2 outs Kenny Polanco lined a double to left centerfield to give the Knights a 2 to 1 lead. Allison came on to save it inducing Teddy Dziuba into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game. Another nail biter in this great rivalry. |

(Malden, Mass.) The Somerville Alibrandis resurfaced from the July 4th weekend with some fireworks of their own as they defeated the Malden Maddogs, 14-1 in a mercy-shortened 6 inning game.
Ted Dziuba and Billy Karalis each hit homeruns in the contest. Dziuba smacked a grand slam and Karalis had a 2-run shot, both to deep right at Maplewood.
Chris Foundas (4-1) was dominate with five innings of two hit work. He allowed one earned run with eight strikeouts.

The Beacons and Somerville traded runs in the first. McKay Club plated 3 in the 3rd.
Ownes/Vasquez singled. Both sent home by Lionel Danielson (2-4; 3rbi; 2 runs; 2 stolen bases). Matt Lavanchy (4-4; 2rbi 2 runs) plated Lionel with a solid single.
Somerville responded with 4 huge runs. McKay came back large in the 4th with 7 of their own to take the 11-5 lead.
Danielson, Lavanchy and Kyle McKay (3-4; 1rbi) sent runners home. Big one was a 3 run inside the park Homer by Jack Ownes.
Ariel Ramos (win); Mike Baryski (6th inning) & Eric Dumas shut the door on the bump for the Beacons.

Epic Yawkey League game at Trum Field last night between two playoff caliber teams. The pitching for both sides were fun to watch.
Somerville started Foundas who went 5.1, Rey came in and pitched a perfect 1.2 innings. Tanguy pitched a shutout in the 8th and 9th.
Eastie started Carlson then went with veterans Shepard and Allison.
A double in the 9th by Anthony Perry gave rookie Shane Rhuda a chance to win the game.

The Alibrandis traveled to Eastie to face off against the Knights at "The Stadium" on a chilly Friday night. Jeff Allison took the bump for EBK matching up against Sean Sullivan for big red. The Knights drew first blood as Marty Dunlap grounded out to 2B to score Kyle Connors after he singled and stole second to lead off the game. The Knights would push across 3 more in the 3rd with 3 consecutive singles to load the bases with no out. Dunlap and Polanco would have singles to drive in 2 runs along with a Vic LeBron fielders choice to take a 4 - 0 lead. Jeff Allison was sharp all knight for the Knights carrying a no hitter into the 5th inning before an Anthony Perry single to break it up. That hit broke an 11 1/3 no hit inning streak that spanned over 3 games for EBK. A Juan Parra 2 run HR in the 6th made things interesting but the Knights held on for the 4 - 2 victory. |

Joey Zampell came in relief and tossed 2 solid innings to close out the game. Zampell let up only 1 hit and 1 unearned run
The Sabers would score 3 early. Ryan Flanagan led off the game with a double and Travis Adam would draw a walk. Angelo Colucci would then hit a RBI single to score Flanagan and also Adams after a Somerville miscue. Joe Parlow would follow with an RBI double himself
In the 5th the Sabers added insurance runs with a pair of RBIS from Adams and Colucci
Flanagan and Colucci had a multi-hit game for Stoneham
Marc Desroches made an appearance out of retirement for Somerville and had 2 hits and launched a triple

Greg Dubela made his return and pitched 2.1 shutout innings to earn his first win of the season. Dubela let up 1 hit, while striking out 3
Somerville would capitalize early on a handful of Saber miscues and a double by Barrett
Stoneham would battle back in the 6th with a 2RBI double by Angelo Colucci to plate Ryan Flanagan and Stefan Botarelli
After back to back singles in the 7th by Zack Rice and Josh Creamer, Joe Parlow would advance the runners with a bunt. Flanagan would then hit a game winning 2 RBI double
Chris Dion would strikeout the last batter of the game with a runner in scoring position to earn the save
Rice made 2 spectactular diving catches to save runs in RF
Foundas earned a tough luck no decision |
