The Brewers jumped out to a 2-run lead in the bottom of the first, as Mike Maguire hit the first Rockies pitch of the game for a ground-rule double. Marc Hordon drove in Maguire with a triple, later scoring on a Tony Iafolla single.

Maguire and Hordon scored two runs each, which gave Kevin Christina all the breathing room he would need.

Mike McCarthy pitched 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief to give the Rockies offense a chance to come back. Kevin Spitz collected his team-leading 7th hit of the series on a solid liner to left, scoring the Rockies' only run.

The Brewers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 1st, keyed by a 2-out 2 RBI double by Brendan Klaes. The Rockies then chipped away at the lead, while Mike McCarthy allowed just one more run in a complete game effort. The score was 4-2 entering the top of the 7th, when a lead-off walk got the Rockies off to a promising start. Kevin Christina then notched 2 consecutive outs to calm things down. Brighton Brewers 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 3 7 1

The Brewers and Maddogs went to extras for the second time in 8 days. This time, it was the Maddogs that pushed across the tying run late to force extra frames when Wood and Panza lead-off the 6th with a double and an RBI single. But 2 costly errors in the bottom of the 8th allowed the Brewers to escape with the victory.

Pitching was the story once again in this match-up, as Sean Tupper (6 IP, 2 ER, 5 hits, 5 Ks) and Tyler Middleton (7 IP, 2 ER, 7 hits, 10 Ks) kept this game a low scoring affair.

Matt Deeb was the key for the Brewers on offense with a run scored and the game-winning RBI. He and Mike Maguire each had 2 hits.

Wood and Panza packed a 1-2 punch, accounting for both Maddog runs and 4 of the team's 5 hits (2 each).

South Boston Saints 3 0 2 7 0 0 0 12 9 0

The South Boston Saints downed the Brighton Brewers 12-6 in a rain-soaked affair Thursday night at Ronan Park in Dorchester.

The Saints (2-1) handed the Brewers (2-1) their first loss of the season behind six strong innings from staff-ace Jon Tenney, who picked up his second win of the season. The big right hander pitched through a driving rain, striking out six and not allowing a walk in the process.

The Saints offense scored early and often to go up 12-3 after four innings. Rob Linn continued his torrid start with three hits while driving in two runners. Nick Vennochi drove in three with one hit and one walk. Linn was the only South Boston batter to have a multiple hit game, while no batter recorded an extra base hit.

Down 12-3, Brighton battled back with their last three outs, putting up another three runs in the seventh. Mike Maguire, Matt Deeb, and Brandon Klaes all had multiple hits for the powerful Brighton offense.

South End Astros 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 9 4
Brighton Brewers 0 2 1 3 6 0 x 12 11 2

The final run tally does not tell the story in this contest. The Brewers were able to steal a few runs early on opportunistic baserunning. But the 6 run, 5 hit 5th secured the victory for the Brewers.

Three Brewers had multi-hit nights, including Tony Iafolla, who continued his hot start going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI. Kevin Christina scattered 9 hits while collecting 9 Ks and allowing only 1 run in the complete game effort.

The Astros posted 3 hits in both the 4th and 5th innings, but only plated one run on a single by JJ Adames. Willie Sanjuro laced a double to left-center in the 2nd inning in his only plate appearance before being forced from the game due to injury.

Brewers come back to win their season opener after trailing for much of the first 5 frames. Walks and errors allowed a crooked number in the top of the 6th, which proved the difference in the game.

Tony Iafolla lead the Brewers offense with a 4 for 5 night that saw him fall a homerun short of a cycle. Anthony Tomaro went the distance to collect his first Yawkey League win.

Bill Reichmann and Steve Tramontozzi collected 2 hits each for the Black Sox.
