Those spunky cellar dwelling Nationals, they wouldn't roll over and let us beat the stuffing out of them.
And they very nearly pulled it out this day as they caught a short staffed Savin Hill team without starting pitchers.
Going into the top of the 6th the home team Nats had a slim 8 -7 lead with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd.
That oft discussed play where the runner on 1st gets caught in a rundown while the runner on third scores before the runner is tagged out.
Yep! You've heard of it.
But, who would dare to do it? I guess we would, and it worked. And as they say the rest is history.

Ben Lupatkin, Jerrad Ryan (4 SB's, R), & Marty Whitmore (2 RBI's, R) each had 2 hits, and Bryan Duffy added a solo shot for his second homerun of the season. Jay Shatto also added a hit for the Dodgers with 2 SB's & a run.
Boczkowski had 3 walks a hit, an SB & scored 2 runs, while Mikolajewski, and Lopez each had a hit, and Flynn went 7 strong innings on the mound. |

The day after his younger brother picked up the win vs. the same Chelsea team, the Rockies pound out 17 hits to give staff ace Mike McCarthy (11 strikeouts) more than enough offense to notch his second win of the season. Guarino and Conners were stellar in relief allowing only one hit in the final two innings.
Gary Moran (4-5) led the offense with a monster night and Chad Conner belted a pair of doubles and drove in three. Bart Lawyer and Pete John contributed with multi-hit games and rookie pitcher Tim Vogel even chipped in with a pinch hit 2-run triple. |

Lepley pitched strong for 6 innings allowing 1 ER, striking out 5 and walking 2. The Braves offense was led by Aronson and Ramsdell with 3 hits each and Cianciolo and Tracy with 2 hits each.
The Nationals offense was led by Chris Brown who had 2 hits including a triple and 2 runs scored. |

Jim Selig got the Royals their first win of the season with a strong 5 innings of work. Selig struck out 13 batters and walked 7 on his way to victory before handing the ball over to Matt Manganelli who earned his first save of the season.
The Royals were led offensively by Pat Sueltenfuss with 2 hits and 2 RBI's and also Paul DiPrizio with 2 base hits. Clutch defense came in handy by the middle infielders, Jay Klemm and Mike Power, in the bottom of the 7th to hold of the Nationals.

Brookline has a big night offensively to win in Dorchester vs. the Nats. Steve DeFusco pitched 6 innings of 4-hit, 7-K ball in his first start of the season to get the win.
Offensively, the Dodgers had a team-record 10 steals (3 by CF Jay Shatto and SS Jerrad Ryan, 2 for 3B Gregg Smith, and 1 each for 2B Joe Patrolia and LF Ben Lupatkin), all in the 1st 6 innings. The bats came alive with 11 hits, and 5 players had a multiple hit game.
RF Pat McGrath had a huge night, going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Ryan was big, going 2 for 2 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Patrolia stays hot, going 3 for 4 with an RBI. Shatto and Smith added 2 hits in a total team effort for the Dodgers. C Matt Donoghue threw out two Chelsea baserunners in key situations.
Kenny Flynn takes a tough loss in 5+, and 5 players had hits for the Nationals. |

19 year old out of Bently College & Quincy -- Dean Sandanato pitched 5 innings for his first YBL win. Dean K'd 5 (K'd side in 3rd) allowed no earned runs as he got his feet wet in our league.
Mike Barthell & Ryan Thomas pitched complete scoreless innings (6th & 7th).
Dean was helped by two tremendous key double plays and the Beacons league leading hitting attack.
Dana Levensaler had 2 hits, scored twice & had 1 RBI. #9 batter, Jake Souto had 2 hits, scored once and had 2 RBI. Dan Ciocca also had a 2RBI single in the 5th to help ice the game. Chris Dean also had 2 hits and scored twice. |

The Malden Bulldogs got their first win ever on Tuesday. Kevin McGovern went the distance to pick up the first win in Bulldog franchise history. McGovern also won the first game in Chelsea Royals history in 2005.
Nick Kelley, Adam Del Rio, and Joe Foresteire combined for 12 hits, 11 runs, and 15 RBI's.
The Nationals played hard until the end with a much depleted pitching staff. Hats off to the Nationals! Lopez, C.Brown, and J.Brown had 2 hits a each. |

Kristaps Aldins and Nate Hodor combined for 11 stikeouts in a quick two hour game. Aldins, nicknamed "Taps" got the win as he struck out 8 batters then turned the game over to hard throwing Hodor who strike out the sides in the 7th.
The Nationals 2B Boczkowski blasted a double in the 5th and SS Mikalaotowski drove him in with a clutch base hit scoring an earned run off Taps. |

The Brewers and Nationals met in the season opener for both teams. Pitching dominated the day, as Kevin Christina allowed only two hits while collecting 10 Ks over six innings. Marc Hordon closed out the game for the Brewers, in addition to pacing the offense with three hits and two runs scored.
Nationals starter Omar Martinez pitched well, allowing only two runs and collecting seven Ks over the first six innings of his complete game effort. But the Brewers got some insurance in the seventh to solidify the victory. |
