In the 6th, another rookie, lefty Rich Dumas, came in to relieve Vogel and eventually pick up the win. Kyle Philson and AJ Bucciarelli had multi-hit nights and Steve Corda drove in two runs. The scrappy bats of the Maddogs pulled through in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game. But, in the top of the 8th, a infield single by Bucciarelli scored Pete John with what would prove to be the game-winner. Jay Wisner earned his second save of the season, both vs. Medford.

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Savin Hill Hornets 0 4 0 0 2 3 0 9 7 2
Medford Maddogs 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 2 6 4

It's funny how sometimes stats don't tell the whole story. Medford's All Star pitcher, Talal Saleh, had 9 strikeouts and gave up 7 hits while Jay "Doctor" Sholl, Savin Hill's talented lefty, K'd 6 with 6 hits.

But, the final score went the doctor's way. Medford's 4 errors, one hit batter and an obstruction call plus timely hitting and stolen bases by the Hornets cost Talal dearly. Savin Hill's two errors were of no consequence.

Not to take anything away from Sholl's performance, he was flat out brilliant on this day, as he and his battery mate, catcher Kyle Browne, plus solid defensive play by his team kept the Medford hitters off balance and in check this day.

Savin Hill was able to avenge an earlier 7-1 loss to Medford and split the series with last year's Championship runner up.

Catcher Kyle Browne

Sean Gildea improved his record to 3-0 with a complete game 4 hit, 3 walk, 8 strike out effort.

He was aided by three defensive web gems. Mike Maguire made two diving plays, the last one a double play as the runner on 2nd base took off for third thinking, as everyone else at the park was, that the ball was in the gap for extra bases.

The third gem was 2nd baseman Johnny Cunningham's dive up the middle. He tossed it to shortstop, Buddy Hanley, who made a 360 and threw out the runner.

The Dog's offense was led by Joe Sheehan with 3 hits and Maguire, Pasciucco and Cunningham each with 2.
