Jim Rice Stadium, considering all the rain, was in pristine condition with freshly marked foul lines and meticulously raked infield. The good field conditions led to a masterfull "duel in the sun."

Always tricky with a nasty slider and great control veteran Astro pitcher Owen Carlson and young Hornet pitcher Kristaps Aldins squared off between the lines until Savin Hill struck for a couple runs on a error and 3 singles in the sixth that clinched it.

South End's CF Valdez threw out Hornet LF Steve Mellor at the plate in the 2nd and then robbed 1B Chili Davis of an extra base hit with a spectacular diving and rolling catch in left center field in the 4th that lit up the decent crowd at Rice Stadium.

In summary solid defensive play, with some alert secondary back up plays by the Hornets kept the Astros at bay giving the young Savin Hill team it's 4th victory and Aldins his 3rd complete game win.

Mike Wan and Steve Donovan had two hits apiece. The Astros made some big defensive plays of their own at 1B as Wil Sanjuro dug out some tough throws to keep the Bombers from adding any more runs. Great pitching by both teams and a special thanks to the South End maintenance crew who did a super job getting the field ready for baseball.
