Brookline holds off the Brewers in a classic duel between Bill Hughto and Kevin Christina down at Healy Field. Both starters cruised through the first couple of innings until Andy Zides led off the bottom of the 3rd with a single to get things going for the Dodgers. After a tough hop single and an HBP (Shatto's 11th of the year!), Marty Whitmore ripped a 3-run triple into right, which proved to be all Brookline needed for the win.

Jerrad Ryan came in in the 6th for a 2-inning save, and kept Brookline in the playoff hunt. Zides led the hitting attack w/ a 2-2 night to go along with Whitmore's blast, and 3 other Dodgers added one hit each as well.

5 Brewers had one hit a piece, and Iafolla hit a bomb to left that was knocked down in the trees for a double.

What a "GEM" of a game the fans were treated to at Trum field on a Hot and Steamy night in Somerville.
Alibrandis and the Brewers battled to a 1-0 Somerville win.
Jon Morse outdueled Kevin Christina of the Brewers to record his 5th win of the year, yielding just 4 hits while striking out 10. Christina was the hard luck loser suffering his first lost of the year(4-1).
Frank McPherson had probably one of the best at bats ever in the Yawkey League battling Christina for a 12 pitch at bat finally singling to right center to drive in the games lone run.
Defensive Star of the game goes to Centerfielder of the Brewers MIke Muccio who made a spectular diving catch to save atleast 2 runs.

HORNETS BUMP BREWERS

Hornet pitcher Mike Stefaniak (Tufts) both wins and saves his own game versus a very tough 1st place Brewers team.

Stefaniak, who was throwing a shutout until the 7th, was removed from the mound after giving up two runs on two hits, two walks, a fly ball out and a hit batter leaving the bases loaded with the tying run on second and one out.

3B Paul (Tags) Tagliaferi and Stefaniak switched positions as Tags went to the mound looking for the save. But Brewer leadoff hitter Fenton grounded to third where an alert 3B Stefaniak stepped on third and fired a high throw to first which just nipped Fenton's wild sprint to the base.

So, Stefaniak saved his own game.

Brewer's All Star catcher Tony Iafolla proved his reputation as he mowed down the speedy Hornet team by gunning down two runners trying to steal 2B.

As they say in the YBL... Anyone can beat anyone.

But the four-run head-start was enough for Brewers starter Jeremy Dalton, who pitched the team's second complete game shutout in as many nights.

The Al Thomas relief squad quieted the Brewer bats after that outburst, but lead was more than enough for Kevin Christina, who cruised to a 3-hit shutout with 8 Ks.

Much like their meeting earlier in the week, the Brighton vs. East Boston match-up was a back and forth affair. The Brewers jumped out to an early lead, putting up 7 runs in the second inning. After a pitching change, East Boston quieted the Brewer bats, and chipped away at the lead with 2-runs in 3 of the next 4 innings, cutting the lead to just 2.

But Brewers answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 4, and ended up winning by that margin. Jeremy Dalton pitched well, going 5+ innings in picking up the win. Mike Mish pitched very well in relief for the Bombers, giving his team the opportunity to get back in the game.
