THE DOCTOR CAME-A -CALLING ON THE BEACONS

In a pretty well played and exciting game both teams emptied their benches to close out the season.

The exciting game provided a glimpse into the future for these two Dorchester based clubs that showed why they both will be serious contenders for YBL opponents next season.

The game was capped by two outstanding catches as Hornet veteran 2B Dave Bonnell rose to the occassion, about 3 feet straight up, to rob McKay Club C Andrew McAllister of a sure base hit.

But the highlight film went to Hornet LF Jay "Doctor" Sholl's unbelievable diving catch of a deep screaming drive of the bat of Beacon's power hitting DH Chris Deane that should have easily gone for a triple or a HR.

But, the Doctor's vertical dive, with arm fully extended, gloved the ball, hit the dirt, skidded and then raised his arm showing the ball to the umpires as well as the stunned fans and players... Outstanding Doctor

What a friggin GAME of Baseball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was a 2inning game that ended with the Rockies scoring 2 runs with two outs in the top of the sixth. Some great defensive plays by McKay Club stopped all Rockie threats. But it was AJ Bucciarelli's sinlge, followed by a Steve Corda double, followed by a Kyle Philson single that scored the 2 much needed runs.

HORNETS UP-END BEACONS

After the scorching heat of the day it was a beautifully air conditioned evening at Ronan Park as a refreshing cool breeze coming off the Bay offerred the players a respite from the weather.

The game offerred up some peculiarities too as both teams struck opponents pitchers for 11 hits while the Beacons scored 2 runs off those hits the Hornets managed to plate 11 runs.

To make the run totals seem even more myserious the Beacons had only 4 strike-outs while the Honets wiffed 11 times.

So it goes in the YBL, never a dull moment, take nothing for granted.

McKay Club waited a long time to kick off 2006.

A pitcher's duel between Rookie Adam Kulis (MC) & Pat Higgins (CR) was the order of the night. Both guys matched up well. The only difference was the final score 2-1.

Peter Needham led off the game for the Beacons with a single - stole 2B and advanced to 3B on a passed ball. Ben Duggan knocked Pete home with a single.

Peter Needham struck a solid single when two were out in the bottom of the 7th. Pete stole second and Duggan did it again. He smashed a solid single to plate Needahm for the victory.

Kulis & Higgins locked heads for a memorable encounter! Both kids deserved the victory, but in this game one guy goes home happy and the other guy goes home with a qaulity start and a loss.
