WP - Iafolla (1-0)
LP - Nadeau
The balls were flying at Trum Field, where the Brighton Mariners squeeked out a 7-6 win over Somerville. The Mariners opened with 3 in the first, all on a 3-run homerun by Brendan Klaes. Klaes later added a double and another RBI to his totals for the day.
Iafolla's knuckler and the Mariners D kept the Somerville off the board for a while, but they charged back in the 7th. Sparked by a 2-run homer by Mark DesRoches, Somerville put up 4 in the bottom of the 7th, and had the game-tying run on second base. But the Mariners were able to notch the final out before that happened to close out the win.
The Mariners take a 1-0 lead in the series, with Game 2 to be played at Trum tomorrow.

Brighton Brewers 1, Roslindale Bluefish 0
WP: Dalton 1-0
LP: Demers 1-1
Game 5 was all about pitching, as both teams brought back their Game 1 starters to pitch this series clincher. In a true pitchers duel, 0 runs & only 3 hits had been notched entering the pivotal 7th inning. Hyde Park starter Demers entered the inning with a no-hitter, but Brendan Klaes lead off the bottom of the 7th with a double to spoil the no-no.
It turned out that one hit was all the Mariners would need, as he later scored to clinch the series. The game was highly indicative of the series as a whole... low scoring game that was dominated by pitching and defense, and was always so close that one play could turn the tide either way. |

Roslindale Bluefish 5, Brighton Brewers 2
The Hyde Park Bluefish bounce back after losing 2 straight to force Game 5 tomorrow, with a 5-2 win over the Brighton Mariners Friday Night at McConnell Park in Savin Hill. Closer Kit Kadlec was solid making his 4th start of the season, going 7 innings, giving up 3 hits, 2 runs (1 earned) while walking 0 and striking out 9. Offensively, the Bluefish broke out in the first inning scoring 4 runs on 4 hits sparked by leadoff hitter Omar Kennedy's triple. The Bluefish tacked on 1 more run in the 3rd to take a 4 run lead and rode the arm of Kadlec the rest of the way. Jeremy Creveling had 3 hits for the Bluefish, while Kennedy, Al Becker, and Sean Glavin had 2 hits a piece in victory. Game 5, for all the marbles, will be at Rogers Park on Saturday at 1pm. |

The Bluefish threatened late in the game, loading the bases in the 5th & 6th innings, and plating one run in the 7th. Santosuosso went 2-3 with a triple, and scored Hyde Park's only run in the 7th.

Roslindale Bluefish 4, Brighton Brewers 3
The Hyde Park Bluefish and the Brighton Mariners started off their best of 5 series with a great nailbiter, but it was the Bluefish that held on to the 4-3 win to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Dan Sweeney's 2 out bases loaded walk scored Steve Corda giving the Bluefish the 3-2 lead. They would tack on a 4th run on an error. The Mariners did not go out without a fight. Garrett Tingle's single up the middle scored Dan Pill from 2nd to cut the deficit to 4-3. But closer Kit Kadlec got a ground out to 2nd base to end it. Chris Demers pitched very well for the Bluefish, going 6 innings giving up 2 hits, 2 runs, while walking 5 and striking out 6. Mariners' starter Jeremy Dalton battled all night, going 6 innings and getting a no-decision. Wes Greene hit his 2nd bomb in 2 days at Rogers, which at the time tied the game at 2. Ryan McCrann, Sean Glavin, and Jeremy Creveling each had 2 hits for the Bluefish. |
