White Sox 4, Rangers 3
In a game that began 9/14 and was suspended after 8 full innings due to darkness at the stroke of 11PM, the White Sox won on 9/18 in 10 innings.
After the first "day," both teams were locked up at 3-3. Combined, all 6 runs that scored reached via walk. And combined, 25 baserunners were stranded.
On Sunday, in the top of the 10th inning, Jason Hoye hit a 2-out single and then stole 2nd base. Ivan Clemente then hit a hard shot to 3rd base that got through to score Hoye. Nate Pane closed out a game Dave Martin started to get the win and sent the White Sox to the Atlantic Conference Finals. |

White Sox 5, Rangers 1
Brian Houlding pitched the White Sox back to a 1-1 series tie versus the Rangers, allowing just 1 hit going into the 7th inning.
In the first two innings, Kyle Michaud already had a pair of sacrifice flies that would give the Sox all the runs they would need. Yet, with the Sox leading 5-0 going into the 7th inning, the Rangers rallied. Chad Besegai reached on error to lead off the inning, followed by O'Donnell, Bristol and Bradesca singles. So with the bases leaded, the tying run at the plate and zero outs, Houlding fought back to retire the next 3 batters and secure the win.
White Sox offense was led by Nate Pane who slugged a pair of triples and Dave Martin also ripped a pair of RBI singles.
Shane Steffens started for the Rangers and went 3 innings to take the loss. Keith Umlauf pitched the final 3 frames for the Rangers. |

Marlins 1, Rangers 0
Offseason free agent acquisition Kit Kadlec led the Marlins to a thrilling 1-0 victory over the Rangers Tuesday night at Ryan. The Rangers' vaunted pitching staff was as good as advertised, as Shane Steffens, Kevin Kreuger, Jeff James and Jay Wisner combined to allow only four hits but Kadlec was able to match them all the way.
Only twice did Kadlec find his way into a jam, and both times he escaped unscathed thanks to heroic efforts from his defense. In the sixth, Kadlec was helped by the defensive play of the game when Mike Mori gloved a high chopper and fired low to home to cut down Bernie Stevens. Jason Skypeck corralled the one hop throw and survived a collision at the plate to secure the out. That would be as close as the Rangers would come as Kadlec retired the last ten hitters.
In the ninth, Skypeck again played the hero for the Fish, singling home Kevin Brennan with the winning run after three walks loaded the bases. |
