But, yet again the Hornets answered in the bottom on the inning when LF Jared Marshman's smacked an almost identical 3 run HOMER.

Final R H E
South Boston Saints 4 3 4
Savin Hill Hornets 5 4 1

On this hot, sunny, muggy day it looked like a route was on the way when South Boston Saints left handed batter CF Masseso crushed a fast ball off Savin Hill starting pitcher Pat O'Toole for a GRAND SLAM HOMER that screamed over the center fielder's head at cavernous McConnell Park.

But, the Hornets would answer quickly with 4 runs in the bottom half of the 2nd, then added a go ahead run in the 4th.

Savin Hill rookie pitcher John Kostas entered the game after only 3 days rest and proceeded to shut down the vaunted Saints attack to preserve a slim victory for the Hornets.

This did not come easy as the Saints had the tying run on third with 2 outs but a spectacular 6-3 play by Hornet SS Pat O'Toole closed out the game and captured the victory.

Powers gave up only 4 hits while strucking out 5 Rockies in his 6 innings of work. His buddy LF Chris McDonough closed out the final frame garnering his second save in as many nights.

Timely hiting by Hornet LF Jared Marshman, 3B Tony King and C Timmy White helped pull out this close contest as all three contributed clutch RBI hits.

Revere's leadoff hitter CF Mitrou's two BB's paid off big time as he was able to scamper around the bases and scored off both of them.

What more can you say about a 10 inning one run game than: A great win, and a heartbreaking loss.

None more heartbreaking than by Brighton Braves pitcher Patrick Walsh. Going all 10 innings in a brave and valiant effort for the Braves only to give up a bloop hit just beyond the reach of SS Bardaro in the last of the 10th with bases loaded that plated the winning run.

Not to take anything away for the 3 pitcher perfomance by the Hornets that recorded 18 Brave strike outs.

7 by Tommy,(Tom-Cat) Errico, the starter; 10 by the young Chris (The Quiet Man) McDonough who relieved in the sixth; And one by Jay(Apple Pie) White in the 10th who vultured the victory.

The brisk cool breeze that drifted over the Savin Hill Bay onto McConnell Park brought the faint odor of an upset in the making.

Strike out king Aiden Powers of the AT Club got touched up in the opening inning as Savin Hill catcher Buddy Murphy, with bases loaded, blasted a 3 run double to spot his team a 4 run lead.

Powers then settled down and pitched a strong game but the Savin Hill defense made all the plays to keep his club at bay.

None more dramatic than two late inning catches made by Savin Hill LF Rich Higgins. In the top of the seventh with the bases loaded and two down Al Thomas catcher Wilshire unloaded a bomb to deep LF.

As the large crowd of spectators held their breath the fleet footed left handed Higgins out ran the flight of the ball then speared it in his outstretched right hand dramatically ending the exciting game... so it goes in the YBL.

Comcast made a rare but welcome appearance at McConnell Park and got a little of everything you could see in baseball game.

A competative closely fought contest that featured a double play, a pick off, a rundown, a stolen base, a triple, 4 doubles, 14 total hits and 22 strikeouts and a large crowd of fans in attendance.

In the end the light curfew prevailed as the no inning can start after... rule was invoked at 10:40 PM and the game was declared over. A 3-3 tie.

Comcast was then left to breakdown their equipment in a dark deserted ball park.

Such is life in the Yawkey Baseball League. Never a dull moment.

In a crisp and exciting ballgame played by both teams the big blow was struck by Savin Hill's leading RBI man, 1B Tommy Errico.

With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth RF Ryan Flaherty and 3B Timmy White struck back to back singles to lead of the inning. Then Errico stepped into the batters box and blasted a timely two run triple scoring what would prove to be the winning runs.

Both pitchers threw gutsy games as inning eater Jay White picked up the win helping himself with 4 assits in the last two innings to hold onto the victory.

Cambridge pitcher Casey kept the Savin Hill team off balance and the Yankees in the game until the fateful sixth inning triple sealed his doom.

In what started as a HR derby at the Garfield School, ended up being just a very nice display of timely hitting. In the 1st inning, Savin Hill jumped out to a 3 run lead on a 1 run HR by Murphy, and a 2 run HR by Errico. They were the only HR's they would see on the day, but they plugged away for 3 more runs to take what appeared to be a commanding 6-2 lead going into the 6th inning. But the Rockies fought back to score 3 runs in the 6th, highlighted by a 2-Run HR by Kyle Philson. In the bottom of the 7th, after loading the bases with no outs, a single by Jalbert and a SCAF by Philson ended the game and gave the Rockies the come from behind win....

Brian Cooper got the win pitching all 7 innings. Errico took the loss.

Rookie pitcher John Kostas spun a gem at Rogers Park during a light drizzle. Kostas walked 6, hit 2 and struck out 15 Braves enroute to his shutout victory.

His no hitter was broken in the bottom of the sixth as Braves 2B Kane laid down a surprise bunt that squirted past Kostas on the right side of the mound that couldn't be fielded cleanly.

That bunt loaded the bases with none out when 3B Andy Taylor deftly fielded Braves LF Tracy's hard hit ground ball to Savin Hill catcher Buddy Murphy that resulted in a force out at the plate.

Kostas then killed the potential threat by K'ing the next two hitters.

The victory was sealed in the bottom of the seventh by substitute 1B Brian Rizzo's sensational defensive stretch and pick of SS Jamie Hogan's errant throw to 1B dramatically ending the game.

Somerville's #29 Mike Powers and #55 Scott Rodgers combined to K 10 Savin Hill batters. Meanwhile Savin Hill's rookie pitching star #55 Chris McDonough (Wheaton College) wiffed 11 Somerville hitters.

Savin Hill took the lead 3-2 when (SS) Pat O'Toole scored from second when Mark DesRoches short hopped a ground ball to 1B. The ever alert O'Toole scampered home when (1B) Treska couldn't find the errant throw at his feet.

It would go for naught though as "Somerville's (2B) Kevin White was driven home by (1B) Chris Wrights' bat tying the score in the top of the 7th.

Just after the end of the seventh the cloud bursts came in with a fury and field conditions deteriorated quickly. After a short cold and wet delay the umpires correctly called the game.
