Poor umpiring overshadowed a great pitching duel between Steve Mineo and Kevin Locke. Both pitchers went the distance with Wayland prevailing 2-0. Steve Wolf led off the Wayland 1st with an apparent homerun which easily cleared the fence but was ruled a groundrule double. Wayland scored a run in the 4th on a single, stolen base, and wild pitch, and added another in the 8th on a clutch rbi single by Bill Carlezon. Brockton threatened in the 5th but ran into two outs on the basepaths. More controversy in the 8th when coaches interference was called incorrectly (see rule 7.09), killing a rally and leading to an ejection of a Wayland player.
