South Shore Giants 11, Metro Red Sox 1

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 R H E
Metro Red Sox 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 4 0
South Shore Giants 3 0 1 7 0 x 11 16 1

The Giants defeated the Red Sox, 11-1, in 6 innings by combining a strong offensive attack with stellar pitching.

Eric Bennett improved to 4-0 with a complete game gem, allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk. The only Red Sox run scored on an infield pop-up that resulted in a defensive miscue.

At the dish, the first 3 Giants of the game reached and scored in the bottom of the 1st inning. From that point on, all offense was insurance. There was a lot of perfection at the plate: Tim Day and Brett Rudy each went 3 for 3, while Darrell Tillmon went 2 for 2. Ed Swan also picked up 2 hits with 3 stolen bases.

For the Red Sox, Mark Moise had half his squad's hit - number 453 and 454 in his storied career.

Both teams remain in the playoff race with just a handful of games remaining.

South Shore Giants 1 0 2 2 0 0 3 8 11 1

The Giants never had the lead until they walked off in victory in the bottom of the 7th inning.

The Sea Dogs held leads of 3-0, 3-1, 6-1, 6-3, 7-3, and 7-5. But it was the 3 runs they gave up with 2 outs in the final frame that cost them the game.

With 1 out, Nick Rotolo should have grounded out to first base, but the flip to the pitcher was dropped and he took first. After a strikeout, there were 2 outs. Then John Sutich singled. Two men on. Then Peter Pasciucco drove a ball to centerfield that should have been the final out, but it was lost in the lights. Two runs scored, tying the game, while Pasciucco took second base. Then Donnie Norton singled over the second baseman's head for the 2-out game-winning RBI as Pasciucco scored.

In his first pitching appearance of the season for the senior circuit, Eric Bennett picked up the win for the Giants, throwing a scoreless 7th.

Giants come up with the Opening Night win over the Breakers.

Trailing 5-4 in the bottom of the 6th inning, Nick Rotolo came up with a clutch 2-RBI double that would put the Giants in the lead at 6-5.

In the top of the 7th inning, Juan Sanchez reached base to lead off the inning. But on a stolen base attempt to put the tying run into scoring position, catcher Nick Laganza threw him out.

Tom Levett picked up the win, tossing 3 innings of scoreless relieve behind starter, Kevin O'Leary, as the Giants battled back all game.

For the Breakers, Billy Traft and Brian Merrick each had multi-hit games to start their season, while Juan Sanchez was HBP twice. Ouch!
