Sabers come from behind to win 7-5

Greg Dubela goes the distance with a gutzy performance to earn his 4th win of the year. Dubela struck out 4, on 5 hits, on only 1 earned

The Nationals would capitalize early on a couple of Saber miscues to take a 3-0 lead

The Saber bats finally came alive in the 6th

Zelnick would hit an RBI single to score Robinson and Graham would score later on the same play. Flanagan would follow with an RBI double to tie the game.

When Nick Schauwecker would then go on and hit a 2 run bomb to left field to cap off the 5 run rally

Another defensive miscue allowed the Nationals to tie the game in the bottom half before the Sabers would take the lead for good with an RBI single by Zelnick in the 7th.

Robinson and Zelnick had 2 hits each for Stoneham

Complete game win for Johan Villalona as the Nationals beat the Saints in game 2 of the season series. Nationals broke the game open with a 6 run 2nd inning and then added a couple more later in the game to support Villalona in a spot-start. Kevin Hopwood (3-4, two 2b) powered the offense for the night.
Nationals return to action at Ronan Park on 7/22 vs the Stoneham Sabers who are locked in a heated battle for playoff seeding.

Nationals get a nice team win late in the season with a patchwork lineup. Eoin McAvinchey goes the distance for the Nationals after a rocky first inning. On defense, Kevin Hopwood led the team with solid glove work, including a Sportscenter worthy double play to end a serious threat in the first inning. On offense, Pat Yee (2-4, 2R) set the pace while Villalona, von Harten, and Argetsinger all hit doubles.
Schlesinger takes the loss for the Braves while Robb (2-3, HBP) led the Braves offensively.

Brian Mylett led beacons to their 4th win of the season. Mylette K'd 7 allowed runs in 6th and K's 10 Nationals. By far his best YBL performance!

Lionell Danielson was 3-4 with a triple and a run scored. Drew Tambling went 2 for 3 with a double and run scored. Beacons scored all their runs in the first 3 innings.

Braves get back into the win column. Lankarge goes the distance scattering 6 hits and allowing 2 earned to get his first win of the season. Uberti stays hot going 3-3 with a HR, 3 RBI, BB to up his league leading average to .568.

Braves score one each in the 1st (Uberti RBI single) and 3rd (Uberti HR). Nationals take the lead in the 3rd on a Argetsinger RBI single and a Villalona bomb to the softball field for a triple scoring 2. Braves tie and take the lead in the 5th on RBI singles by Coscione and Uberti and capped off by a bases loaded double by Tracy adding a couple much needed insurance runs.

Lankarge made in interesting in the 7th by way of 2 Nationals hits and a walk, eventually loading the bases, but is able to induce the grounder to 2nd to end the game.

The Nationals offense was led by Yee who had 2 hits and Villalona went 1-2, 3B, 2 RBI, BB.

Matt Nicholson goes the distance to earn his third victory of the season. Offensively for the Black Sox Bill Reichmann and Kurt Beulke each had two hits. Cam Owens had the fifth hit with an RBI double in the fourth.

For West Roxbury, Derek Dubois pitched very well.
Dubois would pick up the loss going the distand and striking out 13.


Congratulations to Cam Owens. The double in the fourth inning was the 100th of his YBL career.

Paul Mahoney (1-2) went the first 5.1 and allowed eight nights and five runs (2ER). He struck out five and walked one to earn his first career Yawkey win.

Kendall Chaves (2-0) finished the last 1.2 and allowed one hit. He came into the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth with the Maddogs up 6-5 and got Pat Yee to hit into an inning ending 1-2-3 double play. The Maddogs offense was carried again by the combination of Maltzan (2-4 2Rs), Lopes (2-4, 4 RBIs) and Delaney who was a single away from the cycle (3-3 HR, 3B, 2B, BB, 2Rs). Brett Barbati also drove in a run and scored. The Maddogs improve to 7-9 on the season and finish the first half with back-to-back wins.

After a very rough couple weeks, the Nationals get back into the win column with a victory at Jim Rice Field. Derek Dubois set the tone early and continued through the night, giving up 2 hits in 6 innings, while striking out 8, walking 1, and 1 HBP. Pat Bresnehan worked a perfect 7th to complete the game.
Offensively, the night belonged to Justin Wojcik (2-4, 2B, 3R) and Jon Argetsinger (4-5, 2B, 3RBI) who combined for 6 hits. Wojcik added solid glovework to the mix as well to keep the Astros offense at bay.
These two clubs are both off until Monday, where they will play game 3 and complete their season series.

The Dodgers improve to 9-5-1 with a big conference win over the Nationals. A couple timely hits mixed in with a bunch of walks power an 11-2 win, the 4th win of the year for the pitcher from America's hat. Big Canada Huber throws 4, giving up 3 hits and 1 earned run. Chazz Conroy and Nate Hodor clean up the last 3 innings.

Not much to brag about offensively, contributions all over the lineup from the Dodgers. Clarke and Hodor both knock in a couple runs. Shatto makes the defensive play of the game, another outfield assist for the Black and Blue.

For the Nats, Glynn and Meers contribute the RBIs.

In addition to taking home another Matchbox MVP, Huber also gets a wet gift from Gunner, the Rookie Dodger-Dog.

Nationals get back in the win column thanks to quality pitching from 4 different arms. Newcomers for 2014 Derek Dubois, Kyle Corvello, and Pat Bresnehan (W, 1-0) get the Nationals into extra innings while Matt Bernstein picks up the save.
Offensively, the Nationals rallied the bats late and were led by Alberto Vasquez (3-4, 2B, 4RBI), Victor Torres (4 walks, 3 SB) and Pat Yee (4RBI), while Justin Wojcik scored the tying run in the 7th and another in the 8th.

EASTIE, MA...After a week off due to rain the East Boston Knights were back in action on Monday night at "The Stadium" to take on the West Roxbury Nationals. The Knights sent John Tangherlini to the bump to take on Olyn Brea. The Knights struck first in the 2nd inning on a Brett Remon homerun and a Brian Maynard triple to go up 3-0. That was all the offense the Knights really needed as Tangherlini and Billy Riggeiri dominated on the mound for the home town team. Riggeiri (2-0) came on in relief to earn the victory. The Knights scored 11 runs on 10 hits including 3 homeruns by Brett Remon, Victor LeBron and Kenny Polanco. The Knights earned 7 extra base hits on the night and beat the Nationals 11-1 in 6 innings.

Short squad missing several regular starters goes up to Rogers and faces a good Minutemen team, eaking one out in extra innings. Minutemen got on the board early, scoring a run in 5 of the first 6 frames, led by Dana Levensaler (3-4) and Leonburg (2-4, 2 doubles).
On offense, the Nationals were led by Yee, Glynn, and Vasquez, while Christian Ortiz scores twice and Zach Smith collects a pair of hits and pair of RBI.
Both Loveless and Wojcik work no-decisions for their respective clubs, while McAvinchey throws 3.2 scoreless to pick up his second win is as many nights.
Nationals return to action on Thursday the 5th against The McKay Club at Ronan Park.

Strong outings from the Rockies' Torres and Nationals' Bernstein in a pitcher's duel thru and thru. Rockies push one across in the 5th and load them up in the 6th before McAvinchey comes in to end the threat.
A single by Alberto Vasquez and a walk to Argetsinger started the bottom of the 7th for Nationals, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Dennis Glynn. An intentional walk loaded the bases before Justin Wojcik comes thru with a Sac Fly to tie it and Pat Yee (2-3 with a 3b) walks 'em off.
Nationals take a close one at Ronan. Torres collects the loss while McAvinchey collects his 2nd win of 2014.

No better way to waste 3 hours on a Thursday night than to have a game end in a 6-6 tie. The Astros got to Nationals pitching early and racing out to a 6-2 lead before the Nats chip away and eventually score 3 in the top of 7th to even the score.
The combination of 8 walks and 3 HBP helped the Astros push 6 runs across early, while the Nationals collected their runs on a bevy of Texas leaguers, dying quails, swinging bunts, and all other forms of interesting hits.
Cohen pitches 5 scoreless for the Nationals to stop the bleeding.
The past 3 years of this rivalry is STILL tied at 3 wins a piece, plus this tied game.

Proof that baseball games can be won the ugly way.

Johan Villalona (1-0) earns the win in relief for the Nationals, who tie the game in the 7th with an RBI from Matt Bernstein (plating Alcantara) and then push across two runs in the top of the 8th with RBIs from Meers and Glynn. Glynn finishes 2-3 on the night while Jon Argetsinger continues to lead the offense. Dunphy gets the no-decision after going 5 innings (1H, 7k, 11BB, 2HBP) but settled in to help keep game within reach for the Nats.
Breidenstine (10K, 3BB)goes the distance but records the loss for the Dodgers, despite keeping the Nats' offense at bay for most of the game. Tapper led the offense with 2 hits and Nate Hodor recorded 3 walks.

Rain held off just long enough to get this one in at Rec Park in Stoneham. YBL Rookie Eoin McAvinchey (1-0) picked up the win for the Nationals with a 3 hit CG shutout. Nationals were led by Jon Argetsinger and Johan Villalona offensively with their multi-hit games.
For Stoneham, Zelnik had 2 hits (including a triple)to lead their offense, while Flanagan drops to 0-1 on the mound.
