With their backs against the wall, the Dodgers faced an early deficit for the 4th straight game but get the W behind a Matchbox MVP performace from Chris Michienzi. Mich went 5 and kept AT batters off balance, yielding just 3h and 1er. Matt "DJ PowerBass" Rosenzweig earns his 2nd save of the series throwing the final 2 frames.

A miscue in the 1st and an rbi single from Derochea in the 2nd put the Black and Blue in a 2-0 hole, the Dodgers come back with 3 in the 3rd on rbis from Tapper, Hodor and Buddha (2-for-4). They would tally the eventual winning run after a sac bunt from O'Keefe and a throwing error to score Ye Olde Grimes who led off the inning with a double. Clarke adds insurance with a bases-loaded FC to plate 2 more in the 6th.

Fans of the game: can't pick one, great showing from DodgerDogNation. (and a Sully sighting)

Game 5 probables: a rematch of game 1 starters, with Archibald and Huber going on 3 days' rest.

Rookie Bobby Freeman tossed the 5th no hitter in Al Thomas history, and the first in the playoffs as the A's handle the Dodgers 4-0 to go up 2-1 in the series.
Freddie Carrera's fielder choice drove in Matt Jacobs, who had tripled to open the game, for what would be the only run needed for Freeman, who masterfully mixed his pitches with the determination of a Mongolian squirrel fighting for the last nut of the winter solstace.
Steve Lambert singled in a run in the 3rd and rookie Matt Levasseur singled in an insurance run in the 7th.
Jacobs made a nice running catch in center in the 5th to preserve the blankage.

Samp pitched well in defeat for the Dodgers.

Freeman wins the Ron Mexico MVP award for the game.

Nick Tapper's 2nd extra-base hit of the game came in the 6th, and set the stage For the Dodger's come from behind 4-2 victory. after his ground rule double put the tying and lead runs on, Nate Hodor's single down the right field line put the Dodgers ahead.

It was the hitters with the headlines but it was really the pitchers who were the story. aFter giving up a run in each of the first two innings, Kyle Breidenstine was brilliant. striking out Freddi Carrera (3 hits, sb) with runners on 1st and 3rd to end the 6th. A's starter Bill Clang might have been even better giving up only 3 hits and 1 unearned run over 5 innings. Not to be out done, Dodger's Closer, Matt Rosenzweig K'd the three batters he faced in the 7th.

The series is now tied at 1-1.

Kyle "Moose" Breidenstine gets his 1st matchbox MVP.

The ATBC bats were rearing out of the gate putting up a 3 spot in the first. Steve Lambert had a bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the 4th to break the game open. Kostas, Rodriguez, and McDonough also chipped in extra base hits. ATBC looks to keep the momentum rolling in game 2 of the series, while keeping a watchful eye out for their knee caps.

Dodgers close out the regular season with amazing pitching performances. Starter Chris Michenzi gave up only 1 infield hit through 3 innings. Brendan Huber picked up his 10th win of the season with 1.2 innings of relief. And Hunter Shea was impressive in his 1.2 innings of relief. The defense was solid. And the hitters were disciplined with enough timely hitting to provide the offense.

Dave Clarke was the only player on either team with 2 hits including a double. Saint's Bryan Evans' 1-out triple in the 5th inning was South Boston's best scoring chance.

Unofficially, The Dodgers (19-12-1) finish the season as the 7th seed and face the 2nd seed, Al Thomas (22-10-0). South Boston will finish as the 6th seed (19-11-1) and will face the 3rd seed, Revere (23-8-0).

Brighton Black Sox 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 1 6 2

Thai-breakers, shmai-breakers. The Dodgers lock up the 7-seed with a 4-1 win at Rogers. Shebertes rarely let the Dodgers get the bat on the ball (12 ks in 5 innings, including 4 in the 4th), but when it was in play it was productive. Shatto delivers the go-ahead 2b in the 4th, followed by some insurance in a 2out 2rbi single from "The Hebrew Hammer" Dubin.

Bill Reichman (2for3) knocks in the sole Sox run in the 3rd.

Chazz Conroy brings all kinds of nasty to the bump with 4 meaty innings of pure manhood. 1run with 4ks, he kept the Sox bats in lockdown. Moose gets a final playoff tuneup with 2 strong innings before driving back to Sandusky. Hunter Shea adds another save to his young YBL resume.

Matchbox MVP to Conroy, no questions asked.
Fans of the game...the Dubinlaws...seriously, he stole a base. They have to come for all the playoff games.

Stat of the game....Conroy sets a personal best hitting zero batters. Impressive

The Dodgers look to improve their playoff seeding with a 9-3 win over Los Bravos at Rogers.

Los Bravos throw Defusco onto the hill for perhaps his last YBL career start, ending it with the team he started with, against the team he played for the better part of 10 years. And in true Defusco fashion, he promptly drills Shatto in the ribs.

Defusco had a good day at the dish, going 2-3. And Ari Glantz goes 2-4 with a 2-run 2b in the 2nd.

Samp earns his 4th W of the year, giving up 2er in 4 innings. 'Salad' Shea and Rosy throw a clean last 3 innings to nail it down.

After jumping out to a 2 run lead in the first, the Dodgers tack on 5 in the 2nd when Nick Tapper finally earns the Matchbox MVP with a grand slam into the right-center trees (despite a valiant effort from M.Uberti). He also k'd miserably against Smitty again. Clarke (2r)/Buddha/Campbell each add 2 hits.

Fans of the game: the O'Keefes finally make an appearance!

Normandy survives a wet Sunday shelling and was the stage for an extra inning affair.

Dion goes all 8, yielding only 2 earned (8h, 6k). Zelnick leads off the 4th with a 3b to right center, and was knocked in by a Colucci sac fly to right.

Huber tosses yet another CG gem, giving up only 1er on 3 hits. In the 8th he shut door with consecutive strikeouts to win his YBL-leading 9th game of the 2014 campaign (and retakes the team lead in HBP).

Offensively, Jacques Shatto gets a cape AB out of the way to go 2--4 with the tying RBI in the 5th, only to be robbed of the potential winner in the 7th on an highly questionable call. The Matchbox MVP goes to Buddha (2-4, 3b, sb) who was stranded after leading off the 7th with a triple to deep right. Dubin leads off the 8th with a 2b, and later scores on a 2-out squirted single from Ye Olde Grimes.

No fans for the black and blue on the north shore. Web gems for O'Keefe and McClay.

The Dodgers step up to the door of the playoffs, a haven not seen in countless years, behind the Moose's ("I was flown in to pitch. nbd") 5 workmanlike inning win.

South End responded to an early deficit with 3 in the 3rd highlighted by a 2out 2bi double from Alvarez. Baez goes 3-for-4 with 2 runs, and Linn adds 2 hits.

Everyone on the Dodger lineup safely reached base at least once, led by RosenSwag who flipped his bat over and went 3-for-4 with 4rbi, including a 2-run triple in the 5th. Brett "......" O'Keefe had short covered so well that he was getting dirty when the ball wasn't even hit to him.

The Russian's Cut!!

Somerville Babe Ruth baseball took the stage until almost 9:00, opening the door to a 90-minute YBL tilt of pure horsehide, a 2-1 win for the Dodgers in a match that could have easily gone either way.

On July 1st, Canadian Independence day or whatever, the Mad Canuck Brendan Huber (the YBL's 1st 6-game winner of 2014) out-duels Chris McKenzie (CG, 10k), both of whom throwing expeditious complete games.

The Dodgers get a run (and a hit) in the first, only to be equalized by the Red Army's DeMartinis RBI. The Shatto scores what would become the winning run in the 3rd, leaving us with a tense pitchers' duel.

Huber collects his 3rd Matchbox MVP.
Fan of the game also goes north of the border to Randi G, supporting her hostile man.

The Dodgers keep the mojo and notch win #10 of the season with a 4-0 victory over the Minutemen at Ronan.....I mean Rogers Park in Brighton. The Minutemen load the bases in the 6th and threaten action before Big George Ziegler closes the door. El Sampo throws 5 striking out 6, and Ziegler closes the last 2 innings striking out 4.

Offensively the Dodgers break out a little with 12 hits, led by the ClarkeU identical twins. Brett "Woo" O'Keefe goes 3-for-4 and knocks in 2 while playing a silky smooth short, and you wouldn't even know he was there. Meanwhile, Rathasgkahdpri "Buddha" Asdornashgorenfu takes home the Matchbox MVP, calling a stellar game behind the dish and going 3-for-4 with a ground rule double into the forest.

Campbell and Jamo knock in the other runs, with Campbell's coming off a wicked awesome triple.

The Dodgers improve to 9-5-1 with a big conference win over the Nationals. A couple timely hits mixed in with a bunch of walks power an 11-2 win, the 4th win of the year for the pitcher from America's hat. Big Canada Huber throws 4, giving up 3 hits and 1 earned run. Chazz Conroy and Nate Hodor clean up the last 3 innings.

Not much to brag about offensively, contributions all over the lineup from the Dodgers. Clarke and Hodor both knock in a couple runs. Shatto makes the defensive play of the game, another outfield assist for the Black and Blue.

For the Nats, Glynn and Meers contribute the RBIs.

Fans of the game: the Shatto family reunion.
In addition to taking home another Matchbox MVP, Huber also gets a wet gift from Gunner, the Rookie Dodger-Dog.

Once again, pitching is the name of the game. Samp and Tejada do battle, each throwing complete games. For the Astros, Tejada scatters 5 hits in the tough loss, the only runs scored on sacrifice flies. One from Clarke in the 3rd, and the other from Tapper the 5th on a deep fly to left....one of about 4 balls hit that would have been gone if the wind wasn't involved.

Billig remains hot.....maybe warm-ish, I guess, reaching base 3 times via walk.

But the story of the night was Eddie "Guns" Samp. Samp took a perfect game into the 5th, but lost that on a slow curveball that hit the batter getting the Astros their first runner of the night. The no-hitter was broken up in the 7th on a grounder up the middle from Uribe. Campbell made a good bid on a tough play, but lost his footing and now owes Samp something tasty in a coconut.

Matchbox MVP of course goes to Mr. Samp.

South End scores their lone run on a single through the box in the 6th by Rommel Peguero.

The rest of the night was efficient pitching. Starling Arias throws a complete game in defeat, throwing 114 pitches and striking out 10 Dodgers.

The Mad Canuck Huber takes home the Matchbox MVP award with the CG win, yielding only 1 unearned run and dropping 6ks. He got some help with a stellar play at 2nd from Campbell, displaying Herculean range (Hercules had mad range, too) up the middle, robbing an RBI single from Peguero.

Kyle Breidenstine and Blaine McLean locked horns in this one.

Keith Kelly led-off with a double, and later scored on a ground ball to SS. Nick Tapper would quickly tie it with a big double. He would score on Andrew Billig's rbi single.

The story of the game may be that the Dodgers found an unusual closer of sorts, SS Brett O'Keefe closed out 5 of the 7 Malden innings with plays at short, 4 of them with men in scoring position.

Keith Kelly tied the game in the sixth with a solid 2-out single down the right field line. However, when the throw to the plate allowed 2 runners to move up, O'Keefe gobbled up another ground ball. On the day, O'Keefe would cleanly field all 9 of his chances.

A pitching duel most of the way, Bartolo Michienzi goes 4 strong (2ER), matched by Rooney who throws 5 crafty innings before the Dodger bats woke up with 5 hits in the 6th, capped off by a 3R-HR blast halfway to Westeros by Nate Hodor (2/3,HR,4RBI), now the first catcher to snipe a Black Sox base stealer in 2014.

Rookie Hunter (what the hell am I supposed to nickname someone named 'Hunter'?) Shea makes his YBL debut throwing 2 hitless innings in relief and earning the win.

Jay Shatto takes home the inaugural "Matchbox MVP" Award, going 4/4 with 3rbi, 2r and 1sb.

Moved from McConnell to English HS (on account of McConnell needing to be prepped for strategic cow pooping), yet another rainy evening of baseball.

Not a damn thing was earned on this night. No one earned a win. Neither team earned a run.

For the Beacons, new hurler Luis Alcantara teams up with Mylett to the tune of 2 hits, 0 ER and 10 ks. Rokicki leads off the 2nd with a deep triple, but gets stranded.

For the Dodgers, Eddie Samp was Samptastic throwing a CG yielding 3 hits, 0 ER and 8 ks....not to mention twice stranding runners on 3rd with no outs. Tapper singles on a ball hit SO HARD that it just passed out and died 15 feet down the 3rd baseline.

Pure wackiness.....3 out of 4 games in the YBL end in a tie.

4-game losing streak? Eh. Undefeated opponent? Let's go. Can't play on this muddy skinfield? Lets find another. Co-franchise owners arguing like lunatics in the 2nd? Say what? The Dodgers bust their 4-game slide and deliver EBK their first loss of 2014, despite a combined 1ER, 11K effort from Riggielri and Eaton in a tight contest at MudConnell.

Tardugno knocks in Lebron for EBK's lone run with a sharp single in the 1st. After that, it was pitchers all day. "Big Canada" Huber throws a CG with a 1ER, 5H, 1plunk pile of fries, cheese and gravy.

Brett "Kevin" O'Keefe quietly scores both Dodger runs after tough ABs, one of which on an RBI 1b from HighSocks Shatto (2-for-3) to tie it in the 5th.

Stoneham Sabers 3 0 0 0 0 0 1 4 8 3
Savin Hill Dodgers 0 2 1 0 0 0 0 3 6 2

Sam Cummings pitches 6 strong to help the Sabers defeat the Dodgers 4-3

Cummings scattered 5 hits, striking out 4 Dodgers on no earned runs, to earn his 2nd win of the season

Offensively the Sabers would strike first in the first. After loading the basses, Adams would rip a single to drive in Botarelli. Colucci would then get a RBI HBP and Ciulla would single in another

After a few Saber miscues the Dodgers would tie it on a Tapper double play

In the top of the 7th, Graham would get on to lead off the inning. Robinson would than later score on a Zelnick game winning RBI HBP

Chris Dion would come close the door in the 7th to pick up his 1st save of the season

Botarelli and Adams had 2 hits for Stoneham

Hodor had 2 hits for the Dodgers

Proof that baseball games can be won the ugly way.

Johan Villalona (1-0) earns the win in relief for the Nationals, who tie the game in the 7th with an RBI from Matt Bernstein (plating Alcantara) and then push across two runs in the top of the 8th with RBIs from Meers and Glynn. Glynn finishes 2-3 on the night while Jon Argetsinger continues to lead the offense. Dunphy gets the no-decision after going 5 innings (1H, 7k, 11BB, 2HBP) but settled in to help keep game within reach for the Nats.
Breidenstine (10K, 3BB)goes the distance but records the loss for the Dodgers, despite keeping the Nats' offense at bay for most of the game. Tapper led the offense with 2 hits and Nate Hodor recorded 3 walks.

 Summary | Box Score
Final 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E
Brighton Braves 1 0 0 2 0 0 1 4 6 0
Savin Hill Dodgers 0 0 0 0 0 0 5 5 4 1

The SHDodgers win their inaugural tilt of the 2014 season in very interesting fashion. After a 15-minute delay (lights), Los Bravos capitalize on a throwing error to take a 1-0 lead, later adding a pair in the 4th and 1 in the 7th. Mike Smith was stellar, striking out 8 Dodgers in the first 3 innings, going 6 shutout with 11 ks.

For the Dodgers, The Big Canuck (Huber) went 6 yielding 3 runs (2 ER) and keeping his team in the game. Then it got weird. The lights went out at 10:00 on the nose, and caused another 20-minute delay in the top of the 7th. Chazz Conroy lets up 1 run going into the last frame.

With Smitty done for the night, the delay clearly took a toll as the Braves pitching couldn't get back in groove with a series of walks and an HBP, letting the Dodgers push 5 across for the win.

Greeley takes the tough luck loss, Conroy vultures a win, Jamula with the GW rbi.
