The tradition of close games between these two teams continued as a shorthanded Wayland team defeated a tough Wellesley team 6-5. Offensively for Wayland, Steve Wolf was 4-5, scored 3 times, and stole a base. He also made 2 nice defensive plays hauling in a long shot by Griffin of Wellesley, and with bases loaded 1 out made a running catch and threw home to nail the runner for a double play to end inning. Billy Gassett hit a bomb with the bases loaded that would have been a grand slam at Wayland High (but we were at Fallon) and settled for a sac fly, and Joe Calderella had a big 2 out, 2 run single. Bill Carlezon went 2-3 and also pitched well into the 5th inning, before Ramone Antigua came on to silence the Monarchs the rest of the way for the win.

In a briskly played game that took only 1 hour and 45 minutes, with bottle rockets landing on the infield, the Wayland White Sox defeated the Wellesley Monarchs 7-0. Jim Macdonald continued his stellar pitching by going the distance, allowing only 2 hits in earning his 4th win of the year. The offense was led by Eduardo Marcano 3-4, Pablo Rodriguez 2-4, Joe Calderella (2 doubles), and Bill Carlezon, who hit his 1st HR to deep right center. Ramon Antigua was also 2-3.

Scituate-Duxbury and Wellesley played a fine 10 inning game at beautiful Babson College. Kudos to the Monarchs for getting the field. The field being immaculate aside (cleaner than my living rom carpet), the Mariners squeezed out a 5-3 win. Kroeger went 7 giving up one hit. Cassidy goes 3 getting the win to improve to 5-0. Garcia and Woloski had triples in the 9th. GWH to Godino on the suicide squeeze. Griffin pitched well for Wellesley, and the middle of the Wellesley line-up came up big in a 3 run 8th that tied the score. Humid as a Alabama shrimp shucking factory.
