Remember when baseball etiquette and playing the game the way it's supposed to be played meant something?
With 2 outs in the 6th inning Stoneham got their first hit on a bunt.
Jon Klein was masterful in picking up his 4th win of the season. He walked two and struck out 12.
Bobby Mello got the only hit of the game for Medford(line drive to left, not a bunt)and scored the only run of the game after a couple of infield miscues.

Breidenstine and Victory locked horns, both throwing complete games. Victory picks up his 2nd win of the year with 3 K's and no walks. At one point Victory retired 15 in a row.
Nick Vennochi starts the last of the 6th with a hit and is left on, Buddy Hanley starts the bottom of the 7th with a hit and a pinch runner is stranded, then Delaney hits the walk off bomb to start the last of the 8th.
This makes it 8 wins in the last 9 games for the Dogs.
For the Dodgers, Bobby Foote went 2-for-3 knocking in both Dodger runs. |

Dogs win their 7th game in the last eight. Brad McLean goes 5 innings and records his 2nd win of the season. Talal Saleh goes the last two innings scoreless.
Delaney led the offense with 3 hits, 2 doubles, 3 runs and 5 RBI's. Vennochi, Sablone and Mello eached chipped in with 2 hits.
The Dogs turned their 30th double play of the season in the 7th inning.
Lone bright spot for the extremely depleted Dodgers was Chris Wehner, who notched his first ever YBL hit and RBI, along with some entertaining play in right field. |

Ryan Flanagan throws a 1 hit shutout to help the Sabers defeat the Maddogs 2-0
Flanagan went all the way letting up only 1 hit, striking out 5 batters, to earn his 2nd win of the season
The Sabers pushed 2 across in the 3rd. Stefan Botarelli would start a 2 out rally when he would lay a perfect bunt down the third base line and then Flanagan would reach base. When Mike Robinson would hit an RBI single to score Botarelli. Travis Adams would add another with an RBI double of his own.
Jon Klein would get the tough luck loss, scattering 9 hits striking out 4 Sabers.
Robinson and Adams had 2 hits for Stoneham

Blaine McLean pitched Medford's 2nd "GEM" in a row, following Klein's 2 hit shutout on Sunday, with a 6 inning effort, striking out 6, walking 3, giving up only 4 hits and two runs, one earned.
Mike Victory picked up the save. After a walk and a stolen base, catcher Geoff Lopes picked off the runner on second. Victory got the next two batters on a pop-up and a strike out.
The Dogs were down in the 7th by a run with 2 outs and no one on. Garber, Maltzan and Vennochi all singled to tie it and Delaney got a ground ball and reached on an error as the winning run crossed the plate.
Loveless pitched a great game himself for the Nationals taking a one-hitter into the 7th. |

Starter Alex Weldon gets his first win of the year throwing a complete game, giving up 2 runs (only 1 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 5.
Offensively the Astros had a 14 hit explosion, led once again by Steve Baldassari (4-4). Other offensive standouts were Francis Reyes (3-4), Omar Ortiz (2-3) and Miguel Rodriguez (2-3).

Minmen get their first win behind workhorse Jon Sargent. Sarg throws a 7 inning CG with 6 k's.
Minmen lead 5-2 into bottom of the 6th when Maddogs plate 2 to make it 5-4. Top 7th, runners on 1st and 2nd, 2 outs, Mike Nardelli singles sharply to left and the ball gets past the outfielder, allowing both runners to score. Nardelli who was at third after the error, then scored on a sac fly from Ryan Bere. Bere had a big day, looking very sharp on D at 3B and going 2-3, with a 2B, 2 RBI, and a run offensively. |

Chris Dion was brilliant all afternoon as he throws the Sabers' first no hitter in franchise history and the Sabers defeat the Maddogs 1-0 in a pitchers duel at Recreation Park.
Dion struck out 8 Maddog batters, throwing a no hit shutout as he picks up his 2nd win of the season.
Dylan Dennis went the distance for Medford letting up 5 hits and only 1 run getting the tough luck loss.
The Sabers would load the bases in the third with a Joe Parlow single, Mike Robinson HBP, and a Stefan Botarelli Single. When Ryan Flanagan would draw a clutch RBI walk for the games only run.
Nick Schauwecker had 2 hits for Stoneham.
Hats off to catcher Travis Adams for calling a great game behind the plate for Stoneham.

Brighton Braves 4, Medford Maddogs 2
Braves overcome some sloppy defense in the 3rd and come from behind against the Maddogs to earn a victory in their season opener. Lankarge goes the distance to pick up the win, allowing 4 hits, 0 ER, and striking out 4.
Maddogs score 2 in the 3rd with some help from the Braves defense. After a lead-off single by Hanley, the Braves commit 3 errors in a row. Lankarge managed to work out of the jam and limit the damage to only the 2 runs. Braves score one in the 6th on a Hudson RBI ground out and cap off the rally in the 7th on a Caminiti 3-run double.
In the 4th, Tracy turned in a web gem with a spectacular, full-extension, diving catch at second base.
Great start to the 2013 season for the Braves who manage their first opening day win in over a decade. |
