Nate Hodor added 3 hits and Pat McClay continued his torrid hitting with 2 more.

For the McClay Club, Jack Owens had 2 hits and Matt Rokicki gave the Beacons a brief lead with a bomb of a two-out double in the first inning.

Johan Villalona led the offense for the Nationals with a big double to left center and a pair of RBIs with Berroa adding a double of his own. On the mound, Paul Szydlowski worked 5 strong frames for the win and Matt Bernstein recorded a 6 out save to preserve the win for the Nationals.
The Nationals return to action at Jim Rice Field in the South End on Friday August 2nd, 8pm. Good seats are still available.

Braves make it 7 in a row as Greeley (6 H, ER, 4 K) goes the distance for his 4th win and the bats stay hot. Smith extended his streak to 8 in the first with a double and later had a 2-run single in the 4th. Robb singled in his last at bat in the 6th to extended his streak to 13. Uberti is perfect at the plate going 3-3 with a HBP.

McClay and Hodor lead the Hornets offense collecting 2 hits each including a monster double by Hodor down the left field line that 1-hopped the fence.

In a wild one at McConnell the Hornets come from behind to win 10-5.

In a game filled with big plays the two largest were ...

1) with 2 out in the 5th and the Sabers leading 5-4 Joe Parlow seemed to rock a 2-run double. However, the first runner missed third base and was called out on an appeal ending the inning and keeping the score at 5-4.

2) After the Hornets had taken a narrow 6-5 lead in the 5th Pat McClay (4 for 4, 5 rbi) roped a 3 run triple to deep center for his 4th hit of the game.

Dave Clarke, Adam Morgan, Jon Savas and Sean Gordon all had 2 hits for the Hornets. For Clarke that is his 4th straight 2 hit game. He has hit in 6 straight overall, bring his average up to .421 on the season.

Stepan Botarelli, Ryan Flanagan, Mike Robinson and Zack Graham all had 2 hits for the Sabers. Both of Graham hits were doubles.

George Zeigler picked up the win in relief. His first YBL victory.

On a wild night at McConnell, the Braves come out on top in six long innings to beat Savin Hill. Braves bats finally wake up to halt their 4-game skid. Robb (3-4, BB) and Lee (2-4, 2B, 2R, BB) each drive in 4 runs. Rookie Hector Coscione collects 2 hits, 2 RBI and scores 4 runs.

Greeley picks up career win #10 in relief. Web gems of the night come in the 2nd as Ted Tracy makes a full extension, diving catch in shallow left to rob Campbell for the first out of the inning and then later with 2 outs Caminiti runs a long way in right, making a diving catch at the tree line to rob Murphy of extra bases and saving a run in the process.

Several Hornets had multi-hit games including Clarke (2-3, R), Hodor (2-3, 2B, RBI, R, BB), Morgan (2-3, R, HPB) and Spitzer (2-4, R, SB).

Jon Savas' two-out, two-run rbi single in the bottom of the sixth put the Hornets up.. Nate Hodor strands runners on 2nd and 3rd for the save. TJ Desmond started and gave up 3 unearned runs over 5 innings. Jesse Shapiro was sharp in the 6th inning picking up his first Yawkey League victory. Brad Pressler was impressive in the start for the Astros.

For Savin Hill, Matt Jamula and Nate Hodor had 2 hits apiece. Nate knocking in Matt in both the 1st and 3rd innings.

South End spread out their offense with Rommel Peguero getting a big 2-run double in the 4th to put the Astros ahead.

Nate Hodor went 3 for 4 with a lead-off triple in the sixth and a 2-run double in the 7th. For Brighton, Dana Levensaler cruised through 5 inning giving up only 2 hits before the roof caved in.

Billig and Grimes had an RBI each, and Zach Dubin plated the winning run drawing a bases-loaded HBP in the final frame.

For the Hornets, Eddie Samp went 6 strong giving up only 2 runs (1 earned), and Dave Clarke led the offense with a 3-for-4 day.

EAST BOSTON, MA.....After starting the season 2 and 2 on their 4 game road trip to open the season the Knights returned home after an 11 day layoff to face off against division foe Savin Hill in the blazing heat at East Boston Stadium.

The Knights sent Sean Hannon to the bump to face off against Nate Hoder. Hannon went 3 innings striking out 8 allowing only one hit in his season debut for the Knights. Newcomers Corey Laliberte and Max Ocner combined along with Steve Hueston to finish off the job Hannon started. In all Knights pitching allowed only 2 hits and struck out 15 Hornets on the night. Laliberte struck out the side in the 4th inning making his first ever appearance as a Knight.

Offensively the Knights bats went cold. Chris Dowd hit a shot that got by the left fielder for an RBI triple. Dowd now leads the YBL in RBI with 8. Jared Kenney chipped in with 2 RBI and Geoff Harris stole 2 bases on the night.

Sabers explode for 16 hits and defeat the Hornets 10-6.

Sam Cummings got his first start of the season throwing 5 solid innings, letting up 2 earned on 1 hit, and striking out 6 Hornets to pick up his first win of the season.

Rob MacDonald would come in with runners on and get the 6 out save, striking out 5 of the 6 outs he recorded.

Mike Robinson led the Stoneham offense going 3 for 3, scoring 3 runs and reaching base all 4 times he came to the plate.

Stefan Botarelli, Ryan Flanagan, Travis Adams, Angelo Colucci, and Christian Gonzalez all had a multi hit game.

Adams had 3 RBIS, Joe Parlow had a 2 RBI single, and Botarelli had 2 RBIS himself, Flanagan had 1 RBI.

Newcomer Zack Graham doubled in his first at bat and scored a run.

Shapiro reached base all 3 times for the Hornets.

DORCHESTER, MA...The East Boston Knights traveled to Savin Hill to face off against the Hornets for the first of 3 games between these 2 teams. Mcconnell Park was an ice box as newcomer Kenny Loungo took the ball for the first time this season. After a shakey first inning (3 walks to load the bases) he settled down to pitch 4 solid innings of no hit baseball. He struck out the side in the 3rd on 12 pitches and finished the night with 8 k's in 4 innings. Another new comer Carter Machado pitched one inning fanning 2 to preserve the 13 to 2 victory. Knights pitching fanned 10 Hornets in just 5 innings.

Offensivley the Knights banged out 13 runs on 13 hits taking advantage of some poor defense by the Hornets. Paulino, DiNapoli and Dowd all had multiple hit games with Dowd leading the way with 3 RBI.

The Knights continue thier 4 game road trip to start the season against the pesky McKay Club right back at Mcconnell on Friday.

Bryan Mylette got in and out of trouble in four full iinnings on the mound to help the McKay Club turn its opening night win over Savin Hill. Kevin Vally tossed 2 complete innings & Kyle Power came o in the 9th.

The Beacons responded to a 2-0 first inning deficit to score solo runs in the first 3 stanzas and 4 huge runs in the 4th.

Trinity College new guys: Jim Wood (2 for 4 & 3RBI) & Alex Rokicki (2 for 3 - 2 titanic triples 1RBI) enjoyed their first YBL game. Drew Tambling clocked a blazing triple into the trees for for an RBI triple, but was cut down at HP.

Savin Hill left 17 men on base...Ouch.
