Orioles 1 0 2 2 4 0 x 9 14 2

The Orioles stifled the potent Dback offense, rebounding from their loss to the Dbacks two days earlier.

Chris Arenda was dominant on the hill, continuing his second half surge. He pitched a complete game three hitter, striking out 9. The start was shaky- he allowed base hits to the first two batters of the game, facing 2nd and 3rd with nobody out. But then, he managed to strand both runners and allow only one hit the rest of the game.

In the process, he ended Jeremy Broadwell's season-long 20-game hit streak.

The Orioles were aided defensively by the catching of Jay Thomas, who threw out three would-be basestealers. Offensively, Al Cacciatore sparked the O's going 3-3 with a walk.

For the Dbacks, Rich Antash was 2- 3 with a stolen base.

Chris Arenda pitches a gem; since the All-Star game: 2.01 ERA, 1.07 SOIP.

Another exciting game at the Jeff: Chris Arenda and Mike Orlosky of the Orioles combined for a 14 K performance in a game that was hotly contested until the 6th. In the top of that inning, with the Reds at bat trailing 8-7, one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Orlosky relieved Arenda and squashed the threat by striking out the next two batters.

The O's then put the game out of reach with 7 runs in the bottom of the frame, capped by the power hitting of Jay Thomas and Al Cacciatore. Thomas hit a monster shot in the left-center alley that appeared to be a home run but was ruled a ground-rule double. Cacciatore, the next batter, then cleared the bases with a three-run blast to right into the parking lot.

For the Orioles, Cole Barton was 3-4 with a HR and 4 RBI. Jason Bressner and Al Cacciatore both went 2-3 with 3 RBI to support the balanced attack.

For the Reds, Matt Baier continued his hitting tear going 3-4 and scoring 3 runs

Arenda K's 11 in 5.1 innings; Barton and Cacciatore go deep for O's.
