In a battle of power vs finesse, Neil Doherty and Bryan Gauvin locked up in a pitcher’s dual at Bedford high school. With the win, the Yanks clinch the #1 seed in the Atlantic. The Yanks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd on a Gary Moran (2-3, RBI) 2-out RBI single. Doherty and the Marlins defense kept the Yanks offense at bay until the 7th when Moran led off the inning with his 2nd hit of the game. Moran later scored on an error to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead they would not relinquish. In his last start of the regular season, Gauvin struck out 9 while allowing just 3 hits. The Yanks defense was perfect with several nice plays made in the infield. Gauvin finishes the season a perfect 8-0 with a 0.86 ERA. Doherty took the tough loss for the Marlins allowing no earned runs and pitched out of several jams.
