Lexington won its 2012 season opener with a 6-0 blanking of Wakefield at Lexington High School Friday night. The Blue Sox jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead on a two-run double by Steve Gath and a two-run single by Dave Ahern. Gath drove in Jack Laurendeau with a two-out single in the third. Matt Karis won his 20th career regular-season game for Lexington pitching six shutout innings. He struck out seven, walked three and did not give up a hit until John Davison had a ledoff single in the fifth. Jarrod Marchesi started for Wakefield and took the loss going two innings, giving up seven hits and five runs.
