Mike Johnson put in a tremendous pitching performance, striking out 12, walking only 2, and yielding only 3 earned runs in a complete game victory. Mark Tremblay threw well into the 7th inning for the Vipers, getting 2 outs before the Thunder rally began.
Mike Rose, Bill Smith and Jim Beers had 2 hits each for the Thunder. They broke a 3-3 tie in the 7th on a 2-out rally, with Paul Hunter and Mike Johnson scoring on a clutch hit by shortstop Jim Beers. The Vipers battled back in the top of the 7th, scoring 2 runs without the benefit of a base hit on 2 errors by normally solid Beers at short, a walk to Scott Sack and a well-timed fielder's choice by Cory Yon.
