Tigers stay undefeated behind the arms of Griffiths and Harvey, and the bats of Giblin and Byrne.
The Tigers took the early lead in the 1st on a Field BB, a Gib 2B, and a Byrne groundout. Griff battled through the first 3 innings keeping his hitless innings streak as a starter going until the 4th when Ruggieri reached first on an infield single. A walk and a double by Knell put the Reds ahead, but Griff showed some resolve as he got out of a bases loaded jam with a 6-3 DP.
In the 5th, Ricupero got things going with a 1b, an RBI groundout by Silk tied it, and Gib's second stand-up double put the Tigers ahead for good. Byrne knocked in his 2nd run of the day for insurance, however Harvey finished his 3 innings for the win allowing no hits on 5 K's.
Callahan pitched well for the Reds, and both sides played solid baseball, but the Tigers were able to exact some early season revenge on the defending Champion Reds. |
