Down 7-1 after four innings and 7-3 after five, the Wakefield Merchants scored nine times in the sixth and twice more in the seventh to defeat the Americans by a final score of 14-8. Wakefield pounded out 15 hits in the game and were aided by five Medford errors. Derek Falvey logged 2.1 innings to earn the victory in relief of John Spidel. Kevin Flight pitched a scoreless seventh for the Merchants. Orazio Azzarello recorded a tough luck no-decision leaving with a 7-3 lead after going five full innings, allowing three runs, one earned, while walking four and striking out one. John Davison drove in three runs for Wakefield. Rob Papenhouse and Dana D'Agostino drove in two. Davison and D'Agostino led the hit parade with three each. Sam Shaughnessy led the American offense with a single, double and long home run to right center field. Medford's Johnny Welch tied for the league lead with his second home run of the season.
